It’s been a busy month. My husband has been working overtime, and so have I in a different way. Between getting ready for Art Asylum, BEING at Art Asylum, filling orders after Art Asylum…I’ve also updated this website quite a bit (Thanks, Jason!!) and opened my Etsy shop. (If you haven’t seen it, please check it out – click the “shop” link above). It’s been wonderful and scary and heart opening and exhausting all at the same time.
Just his week, I took a daring leap and registered for the Hello Soul, Hello Business retreat that Kelly Rae Roberts and Beth Kempton are leading in September…in CALIFORNIA! I’ll be traveling alone, to a place I’ve never been, to be with a lot of women I don’t know. Again – exciting and scary….and good for me I suspect.
This weekend, I went to visit my family. Got to spend time with my sisters and their families, my mom, who is in the middle stages of Alzheimer’s, and my dad, who cares for her in love every day.
Today, I am recovering from the trip. Over the past year, I’ve been going to visit (a 4-6 hour drive each way, depending on traffic) about once every month or so for a few days at a time. I have learned that I must take a day off before returning to work. Although I look for moments of beauty and connection while I am there, it can also be heartbreaking and sad. On the days between returning home and going back to work as a nurse, I do my best to practice soul care.
So today, I spent some time weeding the garden. I snipped some herbs and made an omelette with them and fresh eggs from our chickens. I’ve done some laundry, and taken a nap. I prayed. I read a little, started some new art pieces, and went strawberry picking with my husband at a nearby farm. It’s been a good day. How about you?
